Kira Moreland believed the day had finally arrived to produce a lifetime-best long jump.

After delivering an effort of 20 feet, 1/4 inch into a strong headwind in the first round Saturday, the Los Osos standout felt that even while nursing a sore groin, she was capable of reaching that goal at the Great Southwest Classic in New Mexico.

But after the second round, the Arizona State-bound Moreland was unceremoniously disqualified for what meet officials declared as an electronics violation.

Moreland's coach was filming her jumps, a practice allowed in California, but instead of the supervising official requesting the videotaping to be stopped and allowing her to continue competing, he disqualified the state runner-up without a warning.
