Burns blazes second-fastest 300 hurdles ever at Great SW By Doug Binder, DyeStat Editor Thomas Burns of Miami Northwestern ran the second-fastest 300-meter hurdles race of all-time Saturday at the Great Southwest Classic in Albuquerque, N.M. Burns clocked 35.25 seconds to break a meet record held by Robert Griffin III and also surpassed a Florida all-time state best held by Bershawn Jackson (35.39 in 2002). Burns was pushed by Charles Brockman III , who clocked 35.62 seconds. Sophomore Arria Minor from Denver East ran an all-time Colorado best of 52.38 to win the girls 400. She ran faster than Cythia Newsome’s 52.47 standard that has been on the books since 1993. Minor came back to win the elite girls 200 in 23.57. Tyrese Cooper of Miami Gardens Xpress Track Club (and Norland FL) ran 45.38 to break the meet record in the boys 400 meters, his best time of the season. Sean Burrell from Zachary LA was second in 46.19. Fellow Floridian Jamal Walton of Miramar won the 200 meters in 20.91. Leila Martinez of Evanston WY broke the Wyoming all-time best in the girls triple jump with a winning mark of 40-9.25. D.J. Henderson of Trinity Christian TX jumped 25 feet, 5.25 inches to win the long jump with a US#2 mark. Maya Evans from Lutheran-Parker CO won the girls long jump with 20-3.50w. Gabriel Oladipo from Fort Bend Hightower TX threw 206-3 to win in the discus. Jequan Hogan, from Fountain Ft. Carson CO overcame three fouls and popped 50-4.75 on his final attempt to win the triple jump. KC Lightfoot of Lee’s Summit MO vaulted 17-8.50 for a new personal best and US#2 behind Mondo Duplantis.
